6 Tips for Male Boudoir or – Dudeoir

When you think of a Boudoir photo shoot you don’t instantly think of men in lingerie? That’s ok, me either but I’ll let you in on a secret…you don’t need to adhere to the idea that Boudoir is only for Women!

1.)    Come as you are

We all have those days that stop us from presenting our best self but that person in the mirror you wish you were, wont manifest unless you stop being so hard on yourself.  Men have a sensual and sexy side to them and I want to capture that power and sensuality. Stop making excuses that you don’t look like other men, you are your own man, act like it! Masculine energy is not confined to body shape, skin colour or origin.

2.)    No Lingerie Needed! ( Unless that’s your Jam)

Jeans and a nice fitting dress shirt can move mountains for a male boudoir photo shoot. It is not about what you wear but the presence you bring to a photo session that allows your photographer to capture your inner Adonis. Some suggestions I have for Men who want Intimate Photo shoots is to select a nice fitting suit, or a favourite pair of jeans. Grab a pair of sunglasses, and maybe splurge on some new fancy boxers, yes the ones that fit a bit more snug. Hats are a nice addition to a photo session where the goal is to show your sensual but powerful side. You get a shave and haircut to feel good about yourself, your clothing should reflect this as well. You are worth the splurge. When in doubt, ask your photographer for suggestions.

3.)    Plan your Style

Discuss with your photographer the style you have in mind so that on the day there will be no surprises and you can relax, knowing you are in professional hands. Style can be a few things, but do you prefer implied nudes, or perhaps something cheeky and flirty, or how about a Shower scene? If you aren’t sure, mention to your photographer during the initial consult that you are unsure of a style and see what suggestions they have, remember they usually know the best styles and themes for your specific type of photo session. Send inspiration photos if you have some so that your photographer is on the same page as you in capturing the best of you!

4.)    Bring Props and Accessories

Do you like to play baseball? Perhaps you are a construction worker? We get all walks and career choices when it comes to Dudeoir photo sessions and it is all amazing. Bring your football jersey, perhaps a favorite leather jacket. These photos are all about you, so if you want to showcase your interests and hobbies in a sensual manner, bring it along. Though a word of warning…no pets. ( Well unless discussed with a photographer first)

5.)    Grooming

So you’ve booked a male boudoir photo shoot, gathered a few favourite outfits, and some accessories and props. Now go and get a fresh haircut, a shave and maybe a massage. Relax and think about yourself for once. We know you are the rock for your loved ones but today is all about you and if you look good you feel good, am I right? Listen I get it, many men have a hard time splurging on themselves and especially with photography but you need to remind yourself that you are 100% worth the splurge.

6.)    Ask Ask Ask

Make sure that you have all your questions answered before your Photo session date. This will ease your nerves and ensure you have a positive experience. Some typical questions we get are:

Should I bring props from home, or will there be some I can use on the day?

How much time will I have and does this include outfit changes?

Will editing be included and how many pictures will I get?

Are pictures printed or do you provide a digital file?

When you know all the small details you can just throw caution to the wind and enjoy the experience of Male Boudoir. It has been designed to remind you that you are powerful, sensual and amazing. Let your Inner Adonis out and let’s see what we can capture for you!

7.)    Bonus Tip- Posing Help

Any professional photographer knows the best angles and sides from which to capture their subjects and male Dudeoir is no different. I am well equipped with experience to aid you in the poses that will flatter your form, and yes you have a best side…we all do. An amazing photographer will walk you through posing, where to put your hands, how to stand etc, so you do not have to be a male model to have an amazing photo session! Many photographers also have guides for those clients that would like something more visual before the date of the shoot, so if you like to be really well prepared ask your photographer for a posing guide.
